of delays are potentially compensable

Technical problems, scheduling failures, and crew issues are all within airline control under EC 261/2004.

28%

qualify as extraordinary circumstances

Weather, genuine ATC strikes, and security threats allow airlines to deny compensation. But airlines over-use this exemption — courts increasingly rule against them.

Key rule

Even if your flight was delayed by weather, you may still qualify if the delay exceeded 3 hours AND the airline failed to provide adequate care (meals, accommodation, alternative routing).

Compensation Amounts by Flight Distance

🇵🇹 Portugal: Biggest Unclaimed Opportunity in Europe

Portugal has only a 2.1% claim rate despite having the EU’s highest flight disruption rate (36%) and the EU’s most generous statute of limitations (13 years retroactive claims). This means tens of thousands of Portuguese passengers are leaving €millions of compensation unclaimed every year.
